However, I have been in touch with Adobe support and went through these but still unable to install the adobe creative cloud desktop. They fussed with permissions etc, but nothing worked, and I don't have any firewalls etc.
As a work around they downloaded InDesign for me, which initially gave me an error when trying to open. I dumped the CC preferences and it opened fine.
Nonetheless, still stumped as to why CC desktop can't get installed (it's a nuisance because many peripherals etc depend on having it running.
